5 easy steps to making your own Mother's Day Flower Vase Arrangement

Step 1

Give your tall vase a good rinse with warm soapy water to ensure it is clean, then fill half way with room temperature tap water. If you have some flower food then fab – add this now too, as this is full of nutriments for the flowers to drink up. We recommend investing in some sachets of FloraLife which are perfect for using at home to help flowers last longer.

Pro Tip: We recommend a tall vase with narrow neck, as this style of vase is perfect for Spring flowers such as Tulips that have long slender stems that need a little more support.

Step 2

Take each stem and measure it against the height of the vase - you want to aim to trim the stem so that the flower head is a couple of inches above the neck of the vase. Using sharp scissors or secateurs (a florists’ must have tool!), snip the bottom of the stem at a 45 degree angle to the length you want. Check out our new Carbon Blade Scissors by Oasis which are a dream to use for DIY floral crafts.

Step 3

Carefully strip any foliage or leaves on the stems that will fall below the water line – this helps avoid them siting in the water and rotting, which impacts the flower life.

Step 4

Start arranging! For a natural and relaxed garden vibes look, mix up the different flower stems and sizes as you arrange them in the vase – for example place a tulip and then a stem of aster (these look like little delicate daisies).

Pro Tip: This is where you can have fun making your own bespoke arrangement using flowers you know your Mum loves. We have suggested a few blooms that are seasonal in Spring and work brilliantly in a vase arrangement like this, but you can always mix it up to suit your Mum.

Step 5

For the perfect finishing touch to your Mother’s Day floral gift, tie the pretty ribbon (or twine if you are going for a rustic country look) with the hand written gift tag attached round the neck of the vase.
